Standard Operating Procedure

 (full movie)

" Investigating the infamous Abu Ghraib scandal, Errol Morris interviews American guards and Iraqi prisoners who were at the military jail before images of prisoner torture emerged in 2004."

I just discovered and watched Standard Operating Procedure and I thought I would share it with everyone. It is shocking how open and nonchalant these people are about the abuse they committed or stood idly by to observe.  This is definitely worth the watch if you are curious about the mess that took place in that prison. Pay close attention to the expressions that these people make while talking about what happened.

Quick warning that this is a semi graphic film if you are disturbed by images of torture and humiliation. Personally I think they are really no worse than crime scene photos.

Assignment: create 5 diptychs with found photos

Next week start class with a photo you bring in that you may have a question about,
technically, aesthetically, politically, what does it mean, why is it good, etc, etc.

Bring your camera to school and start shooting "school " photos during the week.

Buy or go online to read, "WAYS OF SEEING" by John Berger. It is in the library but is worth owning.
